How to play at temple (Sensouji-Temple)
Kaminarimon
Most of all foreigners have seen before in photo or on magazines. This is “Kaminarion” in Asakusa and is one of the most famous tourist spots in Japan.
Now, I would like to tell you how we pay respect at temples. Let’s learn together!
Sanmon
When we walk through here, we shouldn’t walk in the middle. It had been said, that the passage in the middle is for the god, and therefore, people paying respect usually walk along the side of the path.
Chouzuba
We wash our hands and mouth to purify ourselves before worshiping at here.
1. Scoop up some water by the ladle in the right hand and wash your left hand.
2. Now, switch your hand then scoop up some water by the ladle in the left hand and wash your right hand.
3. Cleanse your left hand and pour water into it for rinsing out your mouth.
4. Hold the landle vertically to wash the handle.
5. Return it to the correct space.
Zyoukouro
This is the place where you place the incense.
It is said that, if you bathe in this smoke, you can cleanse that part of your body. I often bathed my head to cleanse my thoughts.
Sanpai
Finally, let’s pray!
1. Get in to the line to pray.
2. Throw a coin into the offering box.
3. Fold one’s hand in front of the chest to prey
4. Bow a little
Omikuji
Maybe, you know what this is. This is fortune paper! You can see what your fortune is for this year. First, put 100-yen coin. Then shake the box until one stick comes out. When it comes out, check the number on that and find the matching drawer. After that, take out one piece of paper, and you can see what is your fortune! If you get unlucky fortune( that is “凶 kyou”), you should tie it onto the stick near by.
Now, you know how to pray respect! Let’s try with your friends!

New Spot
Marugoto Nippon(まるごとにっぽん)
It was opened in December 2015. This place uses “fuudo-jyunnrei”, or climate pilgrimage. It uses the Japanese traditional art and food to create the unique atmosphere. Just by walking around from the first floor to the fourth floor makes you feel as if you have travelled all over Japan!
The “Asakusa nouen” (Asakusa Farm) situated on the first floor is my recommendation.
The thing that is popular here is the butter coffee that costs 400 yen. Hand dripped coffee together with the butter from Hokkaido, and coconut oil creates a unique coffee that cannot be experienced elsewhere. It is very sweet so, people who do not lke bitter coffee can enjoy it as well!
